Syftet var att kommentera och illustrera inhemska växter på kall jord. Palmstruch hade fått utbildning i teckning och gravering under sin militära bana. Palmstruch's own illustrations, in the six first volumes, have been characterized as the best pictures of plants ever produced in Sweden, and make this one of the most beautiful of Swedish books" (Lindberg). The work is usually found incomplete, as most of the stock of the eleventh volume was destroyed by fire before distribution. VIII), 720 handcoloured engraved plates (3 plates with minor inkspots in the margins, some minor foxing, some traces of offsetting from text.)
